Exploratory MusicAll 3rd graders will have "Exploratory Music" where they will learn about the Science of Sound as it relates to music and instruments, woodwind instruments, brass instruments, and string instruments. This is a "hands on" experiential class.
SOUND UNIT |
Third graders will begin their year learning the SCIENCE OF SOUND. This unit focuses on how SOUND is produced, changed, and heard. The students will complete various science experiments and hands on activities to understand how instruments produce sound. This unit will culminate with a group project where students will create a demonstration of their understanding of the process of SOUND (dramatic play, vignette, story, artwork, rap, etc...)

The BRASS FAMILY
The students will explore members of the Brass family like the Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Baritone, and Tuba. As part of this unit, the students will learn how these instruments produce sound, change sound, and the history of the instrument family.
The WOODWIND FAMILY
Third graders will explore the woodwind family and learn how this special family creates sound and changes sound. As part of this unit, the students will identify common orchestral instruments in the family, how these instruments work, and even created their own set of Pan-pipes!
The STRING Family
The students will learn about STRING instruments like the Cello, Double Bass, Viola, and even learn about the various playing techniques of this family. We will explore how these instruments produce and change sound.
