Welcome to the 2021-2022 School Year!
5th Graders:
Band lessons and rehearsals will resume the week of September 13, 2021.
Instrument playing masks are required for wind players and bell covers are required for clarinet, saxophone, and all brass instruments. See Miss Seward for these supplies, if you have misplaced them from last year.
What will I need for my lesson?
- Instrument (with all supplies)
- Sound Innovations Book
- Band/Orchestra Binder
Also remember to complete your BINGO card if you want to earn your brag tag and/or prize!
4th Graders:
Miss Seward will be conducting "instrument fittings" during the first two weeks of school to help you find the instrument that you wish to play this year!
Once we have identified the right instrument for YOU - a recruitment packet will go home to help your parents get the correct supplies for you (including your instrument).
Lessons will begin for 4th graders during the week of September 27, 2021.
Please refer to the school supply list for the supplies (binder, pencil case, etc...).
Stay Healthy and Keep your Instrument CLEAN!
It's the most ILLNESS PRONE (*ahem - Wonderful) time of the year!
If your child plays a wind instrument - please be aware that the instrument may be harboring germs!!!! It's just like changing the toothbrush when your child has a cold, flu, strep, etc... Please follow the directions below to make sure that we are not keeping students sick!
Flutes - Use a soft rag with antibacterial soap - moistened - to wipe down the lip plate, then rinse with another clean cloth. Do not put head-joint directly into water!!! Allow to air dry before returning to the case.
Clarinets and Saxophones - Wash the mouthpiece and ligature in warm soapy water (dish detergent works well), rinse, and air dry.
Throw away reeds and get new ones - especially once child is feeling better!
Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, French Horns - Wash the mouthpiece in warm soapy water (dish detergent works well), rinse and air dry.
* Wash mouthpieces as much as possible (after every practice if you can!)

INSTRUMENT CASES
ALL INSTRUMENT CASES must have a name tag (luggage tag) that clearly marks the child's name and a phone number.
In addition, please have your child put some sort of "marking" on his/her case that sets it apart from the others at a glance. ALL OF THE CASES LOOK THE SAME, and we don't want a child to bring the wrong instrument home!
Colored or patterned duck tape around the handle is a perfect marking, or a fancy ribbon knotted on the case, or a fancy luggage tag. Kids do not read the name tags... they grab and go. Please make your child's case easily recognizable!

Students should have the booklet copy of the handbook IN THEIR BINDER at all times. Please click on the file download above if you would like a copy for yourself.
